A kilim is a flat-woven rug — no pile, no knots — which makes it lighter, more graphic, and perfectly suited to layering, runners, casual rooms, and high-traffic spaces that wear down pile rugs quickly. The geometry is bold, the palette is honest, and the weave shows the maker's hand.
Our kilims draw from Anatolian, Caucasian, and Central Asian tribal traditions — each region with its own vocabulary of medallions, motifs, and color logic. Hand-spun wool on a wool foundation (occasionally cotton). Vegetable-dyed in most pieces; we disclose dye composition on every product page.
Kilims are reversible — both sides are finished. They are also significantly less expensive per square foot than hand-knotted rugs of equal age and quality, which makes them ideal for buyers furnishing multiple rooms or layering over larger neutral pile rugs.
Best rooms: Kitchens, hallways, mudrooms, primary bedrooms (where a flatter rug works better with low-slung furniture), staircases, casual sitting rooms.
Care: Vacuum suction-only, no beater bar. Spot-clean immediately. Reversible — flip every 6–12 months for even wear.
