Handmade Rugs from Our Workshop in Afghanistan
Raihan Rugs sells rugs made entirely by hand in Afghanistan: hand-knotted Mamluk, Oushak, Gabbeh and tribal pile rugs, and handwoven flat-weave kilims. Handmade — no two are exactly alike.
Our Weavers
We hire women. We train women. We pay them directly. Every weaver in our training program finishes with an examination at the loom — and a Raihan certificate of achievement. Women make up about 90% of workers in Afghanistan's carpet sector (World Bank, 2017). Read the full story on Behind the Loom.
Our Craft
Our pile rugs are knotted by hand from hand-spun Ghazni wool on vertical looms, then washed and sun-dried; our kilims are handwoven flat-weave. A room-size rug spends months on the loom. Every rug is inspected in Greater Boston before it is listed, and its origin, materials and construction are listed on its product page.

Live with it for 14 days. If it isn't right, we arrange the return pickup at no cost and refund the rug in full.
