About this piece

A vintage overdye rug that merges Scandinavian minimalism with Afghan artisan heritage—refined tonal depth, embroidered detail, and contemporary restraint.

Craftsmanship & Provenance
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan using traditional techniques, then subjected to a controlled overdye process that softens the original palette while preserving the integrity of the hand-knotted structure. Vintage embroidered accents—applied by hand after weaving—introduce tactile depth and heritage character. This dual-process approach (weaving + embroidery + overdye) reflects a contemporary interpretation of classical rug-making traditions.

Materials & Construction
Crafted from hand-spun Ghazni wool, the rug features muted tones—charcoal, slate, cream, and soft earth—created through the overdye treatment. Ghazni wool—celebrated for its superior dye absorption and natural resilience—responds beautifully to the overdye process, creating subtle tonal variations across the field. The dense pile construction maintains tactile depth while the embroidered accents add dimensional interest. Each knot reflects generations of weaving knowledge, resulting in a textile that matures gracefully with time.

Design & Aesthetic
Geometric patterns emerge softly through the overdyed surface, creating visual interest without overwhelming minimalist interiors. The vintage embroidery introduces organic irregularity—a counterpoint to the structured geometry beneath. At 3.9' × 5.9' (approximately 23 square feet), this rug anchors intimate seating areas, defines entryways, or layers beneath larger furnishings. Works beautifully with concrete, plaster, natural wood, and neutral upholstery.

Dimensions & Care
Measures 3.9' × 5.9'. Ideal for layering or accent placement. Professional cleaning recommended to preserve overdye patina and embroidered details.

One-of-a-kind vintage piece.
